In the Red Corner, George Galloway and in the Blue Corner, the US Senate Tag Team

If you're new here then where have you been? You should subscribe to my RSS newsfeed so you don't miss all the cool stuff going on here.
Thanks for visiting!

George Galloway MP may be a bit of a plonker at times, but no one can fail to recognise his brilliance as an orator and his political prowess when he gave a US Senate sub-committee a right doing back in 2005. Keep an eye on the journalists just behind him as they chuckle over the proverbial kicking being administered to the senators. Senator Norm Coleman, in particular, must have thought he’d gone twelve rounds with Rocky Balboa! Now that guy is a complete wanker! What dimwits elected him to high office? Do the world a favour and never elect him again.

Many of the points made by George Galloway are valid and much he said has turned out to be right. It is such a shame that he came across as a crackpoint before the incident or we may well have listened and saved so many innocent lives.

This is nearly fifty minutes long but well worth the viewing at least once.

Did you spot Borat in the background?

If you enjoyed that one then you’ll probably also enjoy this one from Mike Flugennock which also takes in press conferences before and after the main event.

well he didn’t come across as a ‘crackpot’ to me but then again I don’t tend to read the trashy tabloids.

and by the way who is ‘we’ that ‘may have listened’? ‘we’ did listen thank you very much – clearly you were in the pro-war camp. more fool you.

I also don’t read the trashy tabloids! You’re memory seems to be slightly flawed. The vast majority of the media during the run up to the war were painting a picture that was backing up Tony’s story. Or do you count the BBC and other respected news organisations as being trashy?

It wasn’t so much that I was convinced one way or the other, more that I knew nothing could divert the UK and US governments from their course of action. If push came to shove and I had to come down on a side then I would have been in favour of the war for almost everyone in the media, most politicians and many other commentators made a very compelling case at the time.

Least we not forget that Saddam was also up for a fight. He could have disappeared before the fighting began and many lifes would have been saved. Iraq is a better place for his removal but alas it isn’t a better place due to the many failings of the UK and US governments’ policies.

I will always support our brave young people who go to war in our names, for it isn’t their fault that we have key decision makes whom are dicks. They deserve our support for putting their lives on the line in our name and braving many difficulties when performing their duty. If that makes me a war monger in your eyes then so be it.

Come on, Gorgeous George puts across some brilliant arguments and then commits political suicide in some moments of complete madness e.g. speeches that praise Saddam for standing up to the West, encouraging Arabs to extreme measures against our military and Israel and who can forget the cat incident in Big Brother! How else did he think that last one would end except in complete destruction of his policitical career. It is no coincidence that serious politicians like Tommy Sheridan have declind substantial offers to appear on BB.

Fair enough if George is your Messiah, who can do no wrong, but I can see the complete man – flaws and all.

So much of what you say is false that I don’t quite know where to start in answering you so will just skim through some of the points.

Iraq being a ‘better place’ for Saddam’s removal – what planet are you on? there has been a total massacre of innocents in Iraq over the last four years and the majority of Iraqis say they are worse off than under Saddam. That is quite obvious or do you think they’re all living it up there now?

Soldiers fighting ‘in our name’ – er, not in mine mate. They’re fighting for oil and domination of the region whether they know it or not, so let’s not romanticise what they are doing or fool ourselves.

The BBC being some sort of respectable media broadcaster – it was the most pro-war broadcaster in the run up to the invasion and gave the least amount of time to alternative voices who were saying that it was not possible that Iraq had WMD – so yes, it is quite trashy actually. You seem to take the media’s word as gospel and don’t seem to have heard of such a thing as media bias.

George Galloway committing political suicide after Big Brother – how on earth did you work that out? He has a very successful radio show now with a record number of listeners that he would not have had if it wasn’t for Big Brother. The only show in the mainstream where you can hear refreshing viewpoints untouched by government propaganda.

Clearly you have a different political mindset to me, or maybe you’re just politically naive in which case maybe I’m being a bit too hard on you.

Iraq had its fair share of massacres and brutality under Saddam or maybe you are having the same romantic view of Saddam as Georgeous George did when he made that infamous speech in front of the world media. Or do you take the stance that Saddam was only keeping the ignorants in their place with a few wee human rights atrocities and mass genocides? Further, Saddam’s regime was justified in supressing Iraqi citizens, and those who went missing or were brutally killed were asking for it.

You base your position on a report that was compiled on behalf of the same political biased media you previously mentioned as being mouth pieces for the UK and US governments! Mmmmm! So what makes you think the this report has credence? Remember what they say about statistics! Who’s being the naive one now?

I’m unsure of whether you misunderstand or are just misquoting my position. I don’t think Iraqi is a better place now than it was when Saddam was rapping its resources and killing its citizens, but it is a better place for him not being in charge. Hopefully that rewording will make it clearer for you. Of course you can educate me to why Saddam was actually a sainted leader simply serving his country.

It is now up to the Iraq people to take control of their own destiny for the west have missed the chance of being part of the solution. Unfortunately, it will still take many years, perhaps a generation before we see the true results of that and undoubtably many more people will sadly lose their life during this transition. The western governments, you, I and Gorgeous should all butt out and let them get on with rebuilding their country based on their values, which incidently can be quite different to those of us brought up in a democratic west.

Please educate me to which of the main stream media had an anti-war stance four years ago? I’m having trouble remembering. By mainstream, I mean sources that are beamed into every home or available in every newsagent in the UK.

I have no doubt that Iraq is no holiday camp, but there are many positive signs when you look outside Baghdad, which is a complete hell hole caused by the Americans not having a clue!

Soldiers are also helping to rebuild Iraq in our name. Where were you when UK soldiers were reconnecting power and water supplies, supplying humanitarian aid, rebuilding schools and hospitals, training the new Iraqi security services, police, fire brigade, etc? Certainly not anywhere near Iraq, I’m betting! They deserve the admiration of the British public for doing a very dangerous job in the name of Queen and country. Don’t blame them for the dicks who made the decision to go to war.

So Gorgeous George is now working for the same media you hold in such distain and he’s happy to take money from this biased media that aided in taking this country to war? You speak of record audiences with his new ventues. What records? Again I’ll remind you of what they say about statistics! I can easily say that this blog posting is a record breaker since it is, but the record it breaks is so insignificant that it isn’t worth mentioning.

Face facts: George is just as flawed as the rest of us. He does Good, Bad and Ugly!

I’ve just read this sentence and lost interest in anything you have to say – I am against the mass murder that we have seen taken place over the last few years and somehow I think Saddam was a ’sainted leader’.

What a tragic thing to say – you should get yourself a job at the Sun.

Well it has been nice ALMOST debating the issues with you.

I enjoy watching Gorgeous George in small doses, just like other political figures, thereafter forming my own viewpoint which is somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of views expressed. Even through this enjoyment there is usually at least one point in every outing with GG, that should cause worry to any viewer.

I’ve spoken at length of people who’ve served in Afghanistan, Iraq and other hot spots throughout the world and was surprised at times with some things they said. Likewise, I know people who routinely work in other places in the world like Iran.

Sorry, I couldn’t work for the gutter Murdoch press, but neither would I go to the other extreme of something like the Socialist Worker.

Finally, take a look at GG’s webpage on Wikipedia. If some of the things on there are even half correct then it shows him to be just the same as the rest of us… flawed and imperfect. Or have the citizens of the Internet being brainwashed by the neo-cons resulting in lies and mistruths being published on this independent website.

“You speak of record audiences with his new ventues. What records?”

“last year the former Big Brother housemate and MP George Galloway became talkSPORT’s biggest name. Beginning with the Top Cat cartoon theme tune, his self-billed “mother of all talkshows” on Friday and Saturday nights has scored talkSPORT its highest ever ratings for a weekend slot.”

Thanks MC for producing some external references. At least I can now look at the basis of the “record”. My previous point on records and statistics still stands IMHO: it is a record audience for talkSport from what I understand. Perhaps talkSport had a pretty low bar to start out with. if someone can produce some facts and figures to support this record then we’d be getting somewhere.

I know it doesn’t mean this, but it could have been a rise in audience from 12 to 20 listeners! Let me emphasise this again, I don’t believe these are the figures, I’m just making a point. This post is a record breaking blog post! But who cares, certainly not I! ;-)

Now it would be far more impressive if he was the highest rated radio show of the year. It would be even more impressive if the contrast was made with other radio show on other stations that are in the same time slot. Show me the Guiness World Record he’s broken and I’ll take off my hat and bow in GGs direction.
